Dean Bull (far left) and Steve LaWarre. The Ponderosa Pine was originally purchased as collected material to be used in the landscape at the Meijer Gardens until Dean saw it. They both worked together to develop the bonsai. Dean constructed the unusual NY blue slate pot by cutting slate and wiring it together. It is a perfect match. The committee, under David Johnson’s direction and Keith Oliver’s support, as the present president of the Toronto Bonsai Society, received the BCI Award of Excellence for promoting bonsai at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection. The committee was David Johnston, Mike McCallion, Mike Roussel, Jorge Pereira, David Young, Joan Charing, and Bob Wilcox. A bonsai group of seven! The show was curated by Anna Stanisz.
